You probably think all I do is sit around with my camera, waiting for a bird to come by.  Actually, the photos I get usually happen in an instant and the opportunity leaves as quickly as it came.  I typically just leave my camera out so that I can grab and shoot when something catches my attention.  It helps that we have a lot of windows, too.

Tonight, I looked out the window and saw a little baby robin in the flower bed.  You can tell she is young by her coloring and spotted chest.  She was pecking at the ground looking for some food when a tiny little chickadee decided to join her in the garden.  The minute that the robin noticed she was not alone, she squatted down, cowering and shaking so much I could actually see it through our window.

I thought it was cute because I knew she was cowering from the tiny bird that was hopping around near her. If she only knew that the other bird was less than half her size, she may have felt some relief.  However, she couldn’t see her total circumstances, so remained still other than trembling from fear.

All of a sudden, her dad flew up on the roof near the spot where she laid cowering.  He looked around and then you could tell, he spotted his little one and the “threat” that she was feeling.  With one fell swoop, he dove off the roof and towards the little chickadee, scaring it and making it fly away.

When he had gotten rid of the other bird, he hopped over to check on his youngster.   The two looked at each other for a moment then he leaned in and either slipped it a worm or a kiss.  I’m not sure.  LOL.  And then just as quickly as he came, he jumped up and flew off like something out of a Superman movie, leaving the baby bird feeling secure and protected once again.

We all have life situations when we find ourselves cowering in the corner, afraid to face the danger that lurks around us.  The funny thing about the situation was that the little chickadee could not have hurt the robin more than twice its size even if it wanted to do harm.  As I stood watching the scenario all play out, I was reminded that this must be how God sees our world.  As He stands and watches us tremble with fear of little things that we can’t see or can’t actually hurt us, I wonder if He says, “Here we go again,” as He swoops down to save us from ourselves.

I love knowing that I have a heavenly Father that watches over me, don’t you?  It’s a reminder to me that I never have to be afraid.  He is always there and will watch over me in every situation.  What’s got you cowering this week?  It’s OK, give it to God.  He won’t laugh at you or be mad; rather, He wants to be your “Super Hero” and get the glory for rescuing you from whatever you might encounter.  Even when we only sense danger, He sees the big picture and tells us in Jeremiah 1:8, “Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you”.  Then again in Isaiah 41:10, it says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you…”  Why not hand over your fears right now to the One Who sees the big picture and wants to rescue you?
